Mateus is the fifth generation of the Nicolau de Almeida family to produce wine in the Douro. Together with his wife, Teresa Ameztoy, they work in a winery they call ‘Adega do Sável’, named after the fish that sailed up the Douro River from the Atlantic Ocean.
In this winery they show us different perspectives and approaches to vineyards and wine, based on organic and biodynamic agriculture.
They present three series of wines. The Trans-Douro-Express, which seeks to express the climatic characteristics of each sub-region of the Douro: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. The Eremitas, white wines from plots that are differentiated by the characteristics of the soil they come from. And finally, the Curral Teles, the result of different winemaking techniques.
All this in an underground cellar dug out of the schist, in an unusual aesthetic where nature and man meet.
