Description
The passion for wine, and beyond that, a constant dedication to winemaking has run through the Cândido family for several generations. José Cândido, the family patriarch, developed his professional activity as a farmer from an early age, with wine as his main source of income. As a wine producer, he naturally performed multiple roles throughout the process — sometimes empirically — as a vine grower, winemaker, cellar keeper and, finally, salesman. He alone was responsible for the quality of the wine produced, as well as for maintaining contact with enthusiasts and potential customers. His constant concern was to produce a wine that appealed to the taste of those who tried it. In 1995, José Cândido’s activity took a new turn; his son Joaquim Cândido, a doctor and passionate wine lover, decided to support his father’s work by planting new vineyard areas, building a dedicated winery and applying scientific methods to the production process in line with technological advances. Shortly after, in 2003, two of his children, Mariana and Rui — an economist and a biochemist by training — completed the team that now manages the company.
